So I watched the above titled show the other night.
I’d seen adverts for it for ages before – y’know the kind of adverts that show the best bits of the prog to make you tune in?!
Well I saw pictures of baby shite & placenta & thought “ooh yeah I’ll have a gander at that”.
Well – I was pleasantly surprised watching it, not least because it was effectively Sharon Horgan’s show & well she’s just a bloody funny genius
.
I had initially thought it would be a prog all about hippy dippy Mum’s and how their way was the only way, however, it was more about different parenting styles & what they could teach Sharon (being a busy working Mum).
So the show started off with a Mum of SIX!! I was initially struck by how lovely she was & just how well brought up her kids were – home schooled & just bloody lovely. Then I discovered that this Mum was only 26!! I was absolutely gobsmacked – she was so mature & such a loving mother, I envied her – BIG TIME! Such a gorgeous family she had.
Then there was the story about the Mum who didn’t use nappies on her kids – I mean my initial reaction was WTF?!!
The woman who cooked other women’s placentas made my stomach turn! Talking about how nice and bloody a woman’s placenta smelled – fucking gross!! Then she pissed me off a bit – going on about how people use drugs to soothe a child or “knock it out” well I’m sorry love but if my kids are sick I’m gonna make things as comfortable as possible for them – I NEVER take my kids to the docs when they have just a cough or a cold or a tummy bug – that’s just stupid – but come the fuck on, if they’re poorly why not take the pain away?!
Then there was the working Mum – oh god how I could empathise with her just now. She had a Nanny – OK, not an option we can all afford or want to do BUT it’s not much different from a childminder. Sharon seemed to be a bit weirded out by the fact that this Mum had daily “video calls” with her child – y’know I think this is a great idea, the advances in modern technology really are a fabulous thing & if you can use this to your advantage whilst being a working Mum then why not?! This Mum also had a wealth of iPhone apps to help her through parenthood – this is a great idea, I mean to have information at your fingertips & entertainment for your child whilst on the go – excellent!
Lastly, we saw the Stepmother, I found her to be a little less child friendly than the others but nonetheless she was a perfectly decent Human being – she cycled with the kids – I liked her enormously!
So the conclusion to the programme was that Mum’s all have different ways of parenting their children & that, ultimately, there is no right & wrong.
Cue today & a comment from someone on twitter – I’d posted this …
“I just reminded 7yr old how her brother watched her “come out of my bum” – “it wasn’t your bum Mammy, it was your vagina”
And was met with this comment ….
“are u f*****g serious. Ur 7 year old thinks she can say that. Not impressed”
Well I’m sorry but how I parent my children is fuck all to do with anybody else – I happen to think that being open & honest with my kids is the best thing for them. It is certainly not up for discussion or opinion from anyone but my husband.
My children have watched me give birth, I didn’t breastfeed them, I work full time, I’ve fed them jars of baby food, I let them play out in the dark, we get fast food occasionally.
The point is, we all have different ways of bringing up our kids – none of which should ever be open for discussion to the public. It’s nobody’s business but mine.
Do what you see fit, what you think is best.
Do what makes you happy & what creates a happy family.
No fucker else or their opinions matter …..
Cooking placentas?
I’ll stick with oven chips.
